2018 Scholarship Application

The Horizon scholarship is designed to encourage adult students who are returning to college to select Troy University. As an incentive to enroll with Troy, undergraduate students with a GPA of 2.5 will be offered one free course in their first term if they enroll in at least two courses, and one free course in their final term as they prepare to complete their degree. Graduate students who are unconditionally admitted will be offered one free course in their final term as they prepare to complete their degree. Up to 200 new Horizon Scholarships will be awarded each year. Adult students may use this scholarship at any of the Alabama campuses or online, with the exception of the Troy Campus. This scholarship is limited to first time enrollees. Students receiving a Transfer Merit or Transfer Achievement scholarship are not eligible for a Horizon scholarship.

Eligibility: Recipient must be a Phenix City campus student majoring in Education (undergraduate or graduate) and in their internship program during the funding of this scholarship.

Requirements: Minimum GPA 3.0 GPA for graduate. Must complete a short essay on why the applicant is deserving of the scholarship and describe their need for financial assistance. Must submit a letter of recommendation from a Troy University Phenix City campus Instructor who has taught the applicant. Must submit a copy of Current Academic Evaluation with GPA, Courses, and Grades.

Value: $500 (As determined by the Phenix City Campus Scholarship Committee)

Deadline to apply: Last day in July for Fall internship, Last day in October for Spring internship

Eligibility: Current Graduate Phenix City Campus students.

Requirements: Students cannot currently be receiving any other scholarship funded by Troy University. Must complete a short essay on why the applicant is deserving of the scholarship. Letter of recommendation from current full-time faculty member in their Academic Department (letter must be on Troy University letterhead). Graduate students must have completed a minimum of 9 hours at Troy University and have a minimum 3.5 institutional GPA

Stipulations:

  1. Scholarship must be used in four consecutive terms
  2. Scholarship will not bridge two separate degree programs
  3. Students can only be awarded the scholarship one time
  4. Scholarship will only cover Phenix City Campus classes

Number Awarded: As determined each term by the Phenix City Scholarship Committee

Value: $1200 per term (max $4,800) for graduate students

Eligibility: Graduate nursing student, self supporting resident of Lee County

Requirements: 3.0 GPA and a short essay on why the applicant is deserving of the scholarship.

Awarded: Fall Semester

Value: $3000 ($1500 per semester)

The Troy University Military and Family Scholarship has been established to recognize the service of U.S. Active Military, Reserve and National Guard members by offering a scholarship to the service member, their spouse and/or dependent children.

The Scholarship reduces tuition to $250 per credit hour at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible for this scholarship, the student must meet the following:

  • Must be currently serving in the active or reserve component of the US military

or

  • Must be the spouse or dependent child of a currently serving service member, including National Guard and Reserves.
  • Enrollment Status: Applicant or Enrolled
  • Degree program level: Associate, Undergraduate, or Graduate.
  • Service members need not submit an application for the scholarship (the military TA form will serve as your application).  Members who have exhausted their military TA funding or decide not to utilize TA funding, should request the scholarship via email to fosterc@troy.edu. All eligibility requirements and award details for the TROY Military & Family Scholarship apply to service members. 
  • Scholarship Application must be received 2 weeks prior to the start of the Term or Semester for which the dependent is applying for the scholarship. 
  • Must submit completed Verification of Spouse or Dependent Status form to the Scholarship Coordinator no later than two (2) weeks prior to the start of the semester/term. Re-validation will be required each year not later than July, 31 to maintain scholarship. Download "Request for Verification of Spouse or Dependent Status" Form
  • Maintain a 2.0 Cumulative GPA at the Undergraduate level or a 3.0 Cumulative GPA at the Graduate level throughout the degree program.

Award Details:

  • This scholarship cannot be used in conjunction with any other scholarship or tuition assistance awarded by Troy University, certain VA Benefits (Ch. 33), or certain State benefits.
  • Amount of award will be dependent on the number of credit hours the scholarship recipient registers for each semester or term.
  • Amount of award will not exceed the credit hour requirements of the student’s initial program. Should the student change their degree program, they will be held to their original degree programs credit hour requirement.
  • Scholarship can only be used toward one degree at each level (one associate’s, one bachelor’s degree, and one master’s degree).
