“Greek life has given me many opportunities that I will never forget. One of the aspects I appreciate the most is our service and philanthropies. Every Greek organization has a philanthropy in which they spend a majority of their Greek life fundraising or volunteering. Our dedication and involvement in our specific philanthropies and other volunteer organizations have been a blessing. Young people today are in a society with the "It’s all about me" attitude. It can be hard to find individuals willing to give their time and talents to benefit others. Throughout my years in Alpha Gamma Delta, I can truly say the most meaningful and memorial moments were our philanthropy events and service projects. One of my favorite events was the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Social.
Growing up I was involved in different community service projects, however I always knew that around Christmas time, my family and church would be getting our shoeboxes together. This past November, each sorority came together bringing different items to pack over 400 boxes for children across the world. We wrote letters for each box and prayed over them for that special child that would receive it. The sisters of each sorority came together to pack the boxes and fellowship with each other. We are excited to continue this event for years to come. Greek life gives one the rewarding feeling to be apart of something bigger than yourself. I hope that every person is able to experience the joy of giving at some point during their Greek life.”
