If you are passionate about teaching others the skills necessary to participate in health enhancing sport and physical activity for life, the Bachelor of Science in physical education at TROY is for you. This program prepares preschool - 12th grade teachers to impact students in team, individual and lifetime sport skills in order to enhance their quality of life beyond their school years. At Troy University our physical education program is based on three beliefs. First, teach students the proper skills necessary to participate in a variety of sport, individual and lifetime activities. Second, provide opportunities for the student to learn and participate in a wide variety of physical activities. Finally, by doing so, the student will find success in something they enjoy and will continue to do throughout life in order to achieve a healthy and active lifestyle.
Many of our graduates in health and physical education choose to double major. The availability of both majors and the opportunity for students to opt for a double major sets Troy University apart from other programs. An additional semester of 18 credit hours can provide the graduate with two degrees and prepare them for dual certification in physical education and health education, making them more marketable.

Our program focuses on developing skills in leadership, teaching and public speaking while using the educational conceptual framework of information, innovation and reflection with all students. This framework focuses on the preparation for teaching in the classroom, opportunities for the students to gain hands-on experience teaching using their creativity and expert assessment after teaching opportunities for reflection and improvement on the student’s behalf. Within the last five years, our graduates have seen a 97% job placement rate. This program continues to graduate professionals who are highly sought after by administrators around the state of Alabama.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the projected 10-year job growth rate is 12 percent for elementary school level teachers and 6 percent for secondary school teachers. The median annual salary for a primary school teacher is $53,080 and $55,050 for secondary school teachers. Most students interested in physical education will strive to become primary or secondary school teachers, sporting coaches or will pursue graduate school to obtain a degree in educational administration, sport administration or an allied health field.
