Troy University honored more than 200 people for their support of the University through planned giving during inaugural induction ceremonies for the TROY Shield Society on Jan. 30 and 31.

The TROY Shield Society represents a group of founding members who have chosen to support the work of the Troy University Foundation through bequests, trusts or other deferred gifts.

“This weekend will be a time to express our gratitude to these individuals who have made a strong commitment to TROY’s long-range success through their planned gifts,” said John Schmidt, senior vice chancellor for advancement and external relations.

The Office of Planned Giving exceeded its initial membership goal and inducted 217 founding members into the Society on Jan. 31.

The weekend’s events began on Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. in the Trojan Center ball room with a reception followed by dinner and a pinning ceremony, during which Chancellor Jack Hawkins, Jr. shared remarks.

On Jan. 31, activities began with a coffee reception hosted by the TROY Alumni Association followed by the formal induction ceremony at 1 p.m. in the Claudia Crosby Theater.

Earl Johnson, TROY alumnus, president of the Planned Giving Council and mayor of Andalusia, delivered the keynote address during the ceremony.

A reception followed the ceremony at the Stadium Club at Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium.
