AREA I-V Recommendations

AREA I:

All students are required to complete a two-course sequence in Written Composition.

  • ENG 101 - Written Composition I  (3SH)
  • ENG 102 - Written Composition II (3SH)

A grade of "C" or higher is required in Composition I and II at Troy University.  "D" grades will not transfer.

AREA II:

Choose one literature courses from the approved list below. (3SH)

AREA III:

A grade of "C" or higher is required in the Math course chosen.  "D" grades will not transfer.

Select 8 SH from the following list of courses:

AREA IV:

Choose one history course from the approved list below. (3SH) 
NOTE: Students may not select more than 6 SH of history in AREA IV.

The remaining 9SH hours in AREA IV should be chosen from the approved list below. 
Total hours in AREA IV should equal 12 SH.

  • ANT 200 - Introduction to Anthropology (3SH)
  • ECO 231 - Principles of Macroeconomics (3SH)
  • ECO 232 - Principles of Microeconomics (3SH)
  • GEO 100 - World Regional Geography (3SH)
  • POL 200 - Introduction to Political Science (3SH)
  • POL 211 - American National Government (3SH)
  • PSY 200 - General Psychology (3SH)
  • PSY 210 - Human Growth & Development (3SH)
  • SOC 200 - Introduction to Sociology (3SH)

When selecting courses from Areas II and IV, please note that at least one 6sh sequence in either Literature (Area II) or History (Area IV) must be completed.

AREA V:

The remaining 18sh in Area V can be obtained at the community college by taking 18sh from the following: 

Required:

  • CIS 146 (Microcomputer Applications) (3 SH)
  • ORI 101 (Orientation to College) (1 SH)
  • HEC 140 (Nutrition) (3SH)
  • HED 231 (First Aid) (3SH)
  • HED 221(or HED 224) (Personal Health (or Personal and Community Health)) ( 3SH)
  • PED 200 (Foundations of Physical Education)(3 SH)
  • 2 SH Physical Activity Courses

Troy University Baccalaureate Degrees
The student seeking a baccalaureate degree must meet the following credit hour requirements:

  1. A minimum of 120 SH
  2. At least 50 percent of the degree program must be traditional academic credit
  3. No more than 25 percent of the degree program may be earned using portfolio based credit.
  4. At least 25 percent of the degree program must be completed with Troy University.
  5. Twelve (12) semester hours of work in each major field must be completed in residence at Troy University.
