Turn Your Creativity into a Career with an Art Education Master's Degree

You know the power of art to move people, tell stories and spark change — and now you're ready to share that with the next generation. At Troy University, the Master of Science in Education: Art Education (Grades P–12) offers two distinct paths to help you achieve your goal of teaching art. If you're already certified, the traditional track helps you expand your skills and grow in your current role. If you don't have a bachelor's degree in education or are seeking a new certification within education, the Alternative-A track offers a structured, supportive path into the art classroom. In both tracks, you'll strengthen your artistic practice while learning how to plan lessons, engage students and teach visual expression across pre-K through 12th-grade classrooms. TROY's art education master's degree prepares you to teach, lead and inspire — wherever you're starting from.

Grow as an Educator with a Master's in Teaching Art

If you're already teaching art in grades P–12 and hold a valid teaching license, the traditional track is built to help you grow in your profession. Through graduate-level coursework in studio art, curriculum design and teaching methods, you'll build on your existing experience and explore new approaches to teaching. This track is ideal for certified educators who want to strengthen their classroom practice, meet continuing certification requirements or take on new challenges in art education. Among art education master's programs, TROY stands out for its practical focus and commitment to supporting working teachers.

How to Become an Art Teacher

Turn your creativity into a teaching career with TROY's Alternative-A path. This art teacher preparation program is designed for individuals who hold a bachelor's degree and want to earn initial certification to teach art in grades P–12. Through graduate-level coursework and field experiences, you'll learn how to plan lessons, manage classrooms and engage students in hands-on, creative instruction. The program includes focused art education courses and, for alternative-A students, a semester-long teaching internship that prepares you to step into the classroom ready to teach. Whether you're coming from a professional art background or exploring a new direction, this program gives you a structured path toward becoming a certified art educator.
