After recognizing a need for business training among medical professionals in Dothan, Dr. Marnix Heersink, an ophthalmologist and founder of Eye Center South, helped spearhead the program's launch.

Dr. Heersink sees the understanding of business concepts, healthcare economics and management strategies as essential to providing better patient care and also improving communication and organizational growth. Dr. Heersink believes that the Sorrell College of Business, in collaboration with the College of Health Sciences, can make a positive impact on communities by delivering better healthcare. Dr. Judson Edwards

Dr. Judson Edwards is Dean of the Sorrell College of Business and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Blood Service Economics. He has over 20 years of academic leadership experience and was instrumental in the College's receipt of the AACSB Business and Accounting accreditation. Dr. Edwards is also an Associate Professor of Economics at TROY. His research interests include rural economic development, digital economy and information technology in rural America.
