Dr. John Garner currently serves as the interim Dean of the College of Health and Human Services and Professor of Exercise Science within the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion at Troy University.   Previous to his current position, he served as Associate Dean of the College of Health and Human Services, Chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion and Interim Director of the School of Social Work and Human Services.  Before coming to Troy University, Dr. Garner was Chair of the Department of Health, Exercise Science and Recreation Management and Director of the Applied Biomechanics Laboratory at the University of Mississippi.  His area of research is the biomechanics of human movement in work and sport settings, specifically focusing on footwear and posture mechanics.  He has a strong reputation for scholarship with over 80 accepted journal publications, almost 200 peer-reviewed presentations and research funding totaling nearly $2Million. These research works have been recognized through invitations to serve as an editorial board member for several journals, session chair for both regional and international conferences, textbook reviewer, invited author for a biomechanics textbook, and expert consultant for several trade magazines. He earned his PhD in Biomechanics and Master's in Exercise Science (Lipid Metabolism) from Auburn University. He completed an All-American Baseball career and earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Delta State University. He is also certified with distinction as a Strength & Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA (CSCS*D).  He is married to Bethany, and together, they are the parents of a beautiful daughter (Anna) and a dog (Newton).
